About Clea
An artist’s artist, Clea has a hand in every part of her process, including production,
videos and styling, to create a visceral experience for all the senses. Her inner universe
is revealed through the visual accompaniments to her music, catapulting the listener
into another layer of imagination; in line with her passion for sustainability, many of the
pieces she wears in her shoots are sourced secondhand or made locally. The long-awaited follow-up to the 2018 debut album Vermillion, which included the
award-winning single ‘Dreaming’, Idle Light is a dreamy swirl of ‘mantra pop’, blending
elements of pop, indie and electronica to create a sound that is uniquely Clea. This is
music to dive headfirst into, letting each part of it sink deep into your bones.
Idle Light charts the soaring highs and crushing lows of young adulthood as Clea faces
the realities of late-twenties life head-on with her romantic and creative partner Alistar
Richardson (The Cairos, Zefereli). From hard conversations and self-reflection, these
blissful, transcendent songs were born, inviting the listener to slow down and embrace
their own spirituality.
Clea and Ali wrote and recorded the album in a hand built studio on a property in
Queensland’s picturesque Scenic Rim, which they have now converted into their home.
Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, they tapped into the slow living lifestyle,
reflected in the soothing mood of the record.
Clea’s striking music videos are miniature films – from the dunes of Mulgumpin
(Moreton Island) shot on 16mm for ‘Listen Up’, to the dark theatrics of ‘Exit Game’, each
video is a visual and emotional feast, bringing the emotional core of the songs to life in
three dimensions. Idle Light captures the joys and sorrows, the light and the dark, of being alive. Clea’s
powerful vocals, emotive lyrics and distinctive visuals all come together in her magical,
meticulous world.
