About Cut Out Shapes

Cut Out Shapes are based in Lancashire in the North of England. They have produced one EP, five singles and one album since forming in November 2009. The band worked on their debut album with Simon Humphrey (The Clash, David Byrne) at Chairworks Studios Castleford and Will Jackson (The Music) at Soundworks Studios Leeds between 2009-2013. Their album and debut EP have received glowing reviews from Leeds Music Scene, Gigslutz, Soundsphere Magazine and 24ourmusic.com. Since forming the band have had regular airplay from BBC Introducing West Yorkshire, BBC Radio Scotland, Amazing Radio and have played 3 sessions on BBC WY. The biggest gig the band have played so far was when they supported Chase & Status at Bradford University's 'Party on the Amp' event in May 2011. In summer 2012 the band took a break from gigging to complete their debut album recording which was released in April 2014. Since October 2014 the band are back gigging again around the UK. ALBUM REVIEWS "The four-piece have created a diverse album of sounds, styles and genres: leaving the gap for Cut Out Shapes’ follow-up album to potentially spread into every territory possible" - Gigslutz Website, Jan 2015 http://www.gigslutz.co.uk/album-cut-shapes-cut-shapes “All in all this is definitely a project that will keep you going back. It’s refreshing to hear a well put together album, one that functions as an album and not just an assortment of singles. There’s plenty of tracks that are bound to be a hit live, and there’s enough depth here to warrant attention.” 4/5 Stars -Leeds Music Scene website, April 2014 http://www.leedsmusicscene.net/article/18368 “At last, with a sneaky sample out earlier the album has finally dropped from these well regarded locals and what I have on the shop soundsystem right now is a debut album bubbling with everything that makes them a great band!! Indie rock that incorporates elements of dub, electronics, leftfield and even some damn funky drum breaks in parts, all mixed into a fertile pot of passionate playing. One’s to watch for sure!” -Jumbo Records album review April 2014 Press Quotes "An excellent band from Leeds" -Alan Raw BBC Introducing Sea of Tranquility EP Reviews "'Sea of Tranquility' has to be my stand out track; guitars are unleashed in a 'Them Crooked Vultures' pounding melody and the lead singer has eeriness that really works and makes the band stand out in an already brilliant Leeds music scene" -Leedsmusicscene.net review SOT EP Review 7/10 Oct 2010 http://www.leedsmusicscene.net/article/13689 "The 'Sea Of Tranquility' EP is a mature offering from a relatively up-and-coming band. They have benefited greatly from impressive expertise in the recording studio, but have also brought talent and a genuine eye for catchy, guitar-crunching tracks that rightly deserve air-play and promotion where possible". -Soundsphere magazine EP Review 4/5 stars, Feb 2011 http://www.soundspheremag.com/reviews/cd/cut-out-shapes-sea-of-tranquillity Single Reviews "Take 'Never Change' for example – it's got overwhelming and rich pop undertones that contrast with raw indie tones that will have people likening them to some seriously top musical calibre; check your Placebo, your Depeche Mode and of course... yeah, Magazine as well" -Rarebit Music Blog, May 2012 http://rarebitmusic.tumblr.com/post/20834548549/cut-out-shapes " 'Nightmare' is a haunting effort with top-notch guitar motifs throughout from Chris Wood and Paul Draper-esque vocals from Chris Ward." - Leeds Music Scene review Jan 2012 http://www.leedsmusicscene.net/article/16099 Please support us by buying our Debut album, EP direct from ourselves here: http://cutoutshapes.bigcartel.com and from Jumbo Records in Leeds.
