About Patafunk
Patafunk (born Carlos Eduardo Martinez; December 5, 1978) is a Venezuelan DJ, producer, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. In 2008, Patafunk released his debut album “Dubdelic,” merging the best of Latin and electronic music through the innovative use of Brian Wilson’s pop structures. The song “Surferston feat. G2,” peaked at #2 on the Venezuelan billboard chart, Record Report, with Rolling Stone Latin America calling Dubdelic one of the best albums of the year for its distinctively pleasurable, ocean-like sound.
Between 2008 and 2010, while working on his sophomore album playa, Patafunk delivered multiple nation-wide tours throughout his homeland and championed his own radio show on contemporary music. However, Patafunk’s global sensibility and relentless drive for unity of sound was unstoppable. In 2010, he left his tropical coast of Caracas to take-on the international dynamism of New York City music scene.
In 2011, Patafunk released his sophomore album, "Playa.” Emerging from the soil of his native Venezuela while brought to completion in Brooklyn, the album was featured in the iTunes "new and noteworthy" section. Much of the earlier features of Dubdelic remained, but with bold grasp of hip-hop. The song "NegraChinaLatina" reached number one in Venezuelan radio and was featured in MTV Latin America. In 2015, Patafunk released “Free Your Feet,” a 6-track EP that compiled Patafunk’s singles from 2012-2015. The track on the EP entitled, ”Hit & Run! feat DaniBlau,” was also released as part of a nu-disco compilation by french label, New's Lighter Records.
Patafunk’s fizzy, upbeat global sound has energized crowds at numerous shows and festivals, including SXSW, CMJ, and Miami Art Basel. Patafunk has also held residencies at various popular NYC hangouts like Hotel Hugo, Schimanski (previously Verboten), and Le Bain, and Soho House. His latest creation, the album “High Life” fuses the best of New York’s multicultural ethos with wip-hop, funk, soul, house, and electronic while maintaining its global scope and is set to release in the spring of 2020.
