About Ilenkus

'Hunger' is Ilenkus's third release and takes their music in a darker and more violent direction. The EP contains four short, chaotic and cathartic bursts of grinding post metal. The first single from the EP ‘Hunny Bunny’ was featured on MetalSucks, with them describing it as: ‘A nut-grabbing explosion of raw violence and grinding post-hardcore, this song brings to mind Axe to Fall-era Converge with just enough Botch-inspired math bits thrown in to keep you on your toes’. Echoes and Dust described ‘Hunger’ as ‘A four track EP which moves to a far more aggressive style of noisy hardcore‘ and ‘one of the most vital and exciting 14 minutes and 11 seconds that you’ll listen to today’. State.ie said of the band’s recent festival appearance at Knockantockan 2016 ‘Ilenkus are absolutely tearing up the place in a frenzy of lights, smoke and astonishing noise. We’ve seen a lot of great performances this weekend yet this one might just take the top spot, helped by the thrill of a new discovery and the sheer power of their grinding post-metal’ 'Hunger' released digitally on 19/10/16. A limited edition 7" vinyl is available in red, blue and black variants. Recorded, engineered and mixed by Aidan Cunningham (Murdock) and mastered by Brad Boatright at Audiosiege (The Armed, Sunn 0))), Nails, Old Man Gloom). Artwork by longtime friend and contributor James Sheridan. Bio Ilenkus are a 5-piece metal/hardcore band from Galway, Ireland. Their sound is primal and rooted in raw aggression, yet also fluid and divergent. Ilenkus formed and released their first demo in 2010, containing three home recorded songs, one of which would make it onto the band’s debut LP the following year. Also completely self-recorded, 'Rule By Thieves' was released in September 2011 and immediately attracted the attention of Savour Your Scene Records. The album was received positively by critics, with Terrorizer Magazine describing it as "expansive and well written". In October 2012 Ilenkus released the single 'Ram' and began writing the follow-up to 'Rule By Thieves' while touring in the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe. The band's second LP 'The Crossing' was released independently in September 2014 and was mixed and mastered by Chris Common (These Arms Are Snakes, Chelsea Wolfe, Pelican). The music video for 'Over The Fire, Under The Smoke' (which shows vocalist Chris Brennan performing the song unaccompanied on a busy shopping street) amassed in excess of 30,000 views in under a week. Ilenkus recently featured in an episode of 'Fractured'; a documentary series exploring the Irish underground metal and extreme music scene - 'Like Burning Glass'. Ilenkus's new EP 'Hunger' shows their sound developed in a more direct and intense direction. Downtuned guitars, amplified aggression and increased noise all culminate to create an imposing and powerful batch of songs. The EP contains four short, chaotic and cathartic bursts of grinding post metal; 14 minutes of controlled noise and raw energy. No strangers to DIY touring, Ilenkus have played with: Norma Jean, The Ocean, Mutoid Man, Rolo Tomassi, Employed To Serve, The Afternoon Gentlemen and many more.
