About Vassil Petrov

VASSIL PETROV
After graduating from the Academy of Music in 1990, Vassil Petrov has quickly established himself as a leading jazz and pop performer, and the best selling recording artist in Bulgaria. Vassil's melodical rich baritone spans three octaves and features both astonishing technical mastery and emotional depth. His repertoire includes original compositions and modern interpretations of standards and songs written by himself, all of which are springboards for inspired improvisation, scatting, spoken word, and poetry.

As a leader singer Vassil Petrov has many musical projects: jazz, pop, chamber orchestras, philharmonic orchestras, big bands, musical shows, performing in some of the best theaters in Bulgaria and abroad . He has been very active in Jazz Festivals and tours in Bulgaria and abroad, with a big number of concert performances - Helsinki (Finland), Oslo(Norway), Greece,Vienna (Austria), Stockholm (Sweden), Belgrade and Nis (Serbia), Lillehammer (Norway) during the winter Olympic games, Lugano (Switzerland), tour in Tokyo (Japan), tour in Moscow (Russia), Darmstadt and Plassenburg-Kulmbach, Frankfurt on European Cultural day 2014(Germany) and others. He has number of recordings and appearances on the Bulgarian National Radio and Television. Vassil Petrov has recorded ten successful jazz and pop albums and he has awards from Golden Orpheus 95` for Hit of the Years, Singer of the Year, Album of the year and more.

Vassil Petrov has toured vigorously throughout his career, thrilling audiences throughout the world. At that time he has leads his own jazz trio and has collaborated with many of the finest orchestras from Bulgaria and abroad.

Some critics are inspired to comment on Petrov as a “Bulgarian Frank Sinatra”, Frankenpost called “a performer with incredible stage presence, with a velvet voice and extraordinary beauty “ who has been compared with the greatest of the greats, such as Tony Bennett, Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra. German newspaper Echo declared:” Not only his voice and his warm baritone flattering, but also the smoothness and coolness of his appearance reminiscent of "The Voice". As musically solid as his recordings are and as powerful and honest as Petrov’s magnificent voice is, it may just well be the brilliance of his poetry and the unguarded depth of his emotional delivery that is most fueling his rapid rise to fame.

Vassil Petrov Albums and discography :

Reviews:
"Listening to Mr. Petrov's music, one is reminded of the great crooners such as Crosby and Sinatra. Petrov's delivery is smooth and sincere with beautiful arrangements that serve the music well. His love of standards is evident throughout the music." - Randy McEllogot-radio host at CHUO 89,1FM, Ottawa

“Absolute highlights were certainly songs with the love story theme "Where Do I Begin", "Killing Me Softly With This Song", or "My Way". The jazz and pop singer Vassil Petrov, a star in his homeland, has an incredible stage presence. With a velvet voice and extraordinary beauty of the internationally renowned singer he is rightly celebrated as Bulgarian Sinatra.” - German newspaper “Frankenpost “

“The first guest of the evening, the Bulgarian jazz singer Vassil Petrov, appeared on the stage with the great Cole Porter hit "I'll get a kick out of you". Sovereign interpretive he was enthusiastic from the first tone and flirted charming and with a wink to the audience. Petrov is a worthy successor to Frank Sinatra: Not only his voice and his warm baritone flattering, but also the smoothness and coolness of his appearance reminiscent of "The Voice". The instrumentalists were so inspired from Petrov’s standard, so the saxophone soloed as smooth and liquid as Vassil Petrov's vocals.”- German newspaper “Echo”

"Fly me to the moon", “New York, New York” or other titles from the “American Songbook” - classic hits, which always remind me also of -Vassil Petrov, the "Frank Sinatra of Bulgaria".

I know and appreciate Vassil Petrov as an outstanding singer, since he made a successful concert at the German Embassy in Sofia 12 years ago. His performances, whether on a big stage at jazz festivals and in concert halls or in small jazz clubs and piano bars, whether accompanied by a small combo or by a big orchestra, are always a listening experience of a very special kind. A great artist with a very sympathetic appearance and human warmth. “- Jörg Schenk, German Embassy Sofia.
