About Liam Gerner

LIAM GERNER “Liam is an extraordinary musician. Both as a songwriter and performer Liam is a force to be reckoned with.” Ryan Bingham Steeped in blues and country music, Liam Gerner left his rural family life in Adelaide hills to seek his fortune in London. Almost immediately he was treated as a “hot new talent” and experienced the music business at its most corporate. Breaking free, he headed to the US, joined Texan country rocker Ryan Bingham’s band on guitar and experienced frontline American roots music. Returning to Australia in early-2013 Liam had his guitar, songs and Land Of No Roads, an album cut with LA’s finest. Liam speaks: “Born in Australia in 1983, I was raised in a rural town, In Europe I toured with Paul Weller, Jason Isbell, Alanis Morissette, Paolo Nutini, Elton John, Drive by Truckers and many more. I got a record deal with RCA, but after a year I walked away as I didn’t want to be turned into another bland, wannabe pop-star. What drives me is the song, storytelling and music.” “Ryan Bingham (Oscar and Grammy winner for film Crazy Heart) and I met when I opened for him in a Dublin pub. We got on grand and he invited me to the USA to tour with him in 2011. I ended up playing guitar in his badass Texan rock’n’roll band The Dead Horses. I got to meet some heroes in the US, play songs with Jackson Browne and Kris Kristofferson, trade licks with Dale Watson in Austin bars, and jam with locals South Central LA juke joints. I even got to play Johnny Cash’s J200 at Marty Stuarts house and discussed songwriting with Tom T Hall in Nashville.” “I lived for two years up in a cabin in Topanga Canyon, California, with the deer, mountain lions and rattlesnakes; a welcome change from the city and road life. There I worked on the songs for my new album Land of No Roads. I recorded the album at Rick Rubin’s studio Shangri La in 3 days. It was produced by Rubin’s engineer Eric Lynn. Gary Louris of the Jayhawks and I wrote a song called 'Window To a Wall' and Gary and Robbie Fulks both sing harmony on several tunes while legendary Cajun accordionist Steve Riley plays accordion and my dear friend Lucky Oceans added pedal steel and dobro. I grew up listening to Lucky’s daily music radio show.” “Several of the songs on Land Of No Roads are true stories that I found while touring. Stories which resonated with me.” Liam is now based in Melbourne where he plays with his band The Alan Ladds and with Vika and Linda Bull. Land of No Roads will be released in July 2013. Liam also plays and works with his new Melbourne based band The Alan Ladds (www.facebook.com/thealanladds) . He tours and record with Pnau, Pnau vs Elton John and and records with Empire Of The Sun. Liam has toured Europe, Australia and the USA with artists such as: Ryan Bingham and The Dead Horses, The Drive By Truckers, Paul Weller, Jason Isbell, Pnau, Robbie Fulks, Alanis Morisette, Roger Daltrey, Paolo Nutini, Newton Faulkner, Amy MacDonald, Duffy and many more. www.liamgerner.com New album out now Liam Gerner and the Sunset Pushers https://liamgerner.lnk.to/SunsetPushers
