Meet the band

Mike Tiesing on drums. Mike is a former dancer from the original Soul Train television show. Since the cancelation of the popular 70's show, he has traded in his sequined shirt for drumsticks. But he can still " cut the rug."


Michael Johnson on Lead Vocals & Guitar. Formerly known as Devron Caladucci came to us through the New York Penetentiary system. Michael was the assistant pimp for Al Capones grandsons first cousins boyfriend. Michael learned to sing while working late hours on the mean streets of New York, waiting on his "employees" to bring him his dang money! After prison Michael could sing at a much higher register for some reason & Sideswiped quickly recognized his raw talent behind a microphone.

Van Hartsell, better known as "Van the Man", started his career as a wrestler in the acc wrestling association slamming people through tables. One of Van's weapons of choice was a bass guitar. Though never knowing how to play one, he became interested after smashing the faces of many people and learned to play. After a career ending knee injury, he moved to Atlanta, GA and became a street performer. Lead singer Michael Johnson just happened to be in Atlanta when he noticed Van's skills and quickly took him off the streets.

The members of Sideswiped somehow ironically met at a motivational seminar in the Catskills. They each commented that the speaker said they had potential for personal growth. Realizing the need for a band during one of the breaks, they quickly ran out and purchased instruments. The new found group of friends were involved in a collision on the return to the seminar. An elderly lady on a motorized scooter sideswiped them while trying to switch lanes. The dream was born!!!
