Sunrise and Good People

It is rare to discover artists who are successfully fulfilling a mission to change the world through their music. A few elements are crucial to make this phenomenon a reality. Great musicianship is a given, paired with musical originality, and an uncanny ability to turn wisdom and insight into commercially accessible songs. Very few choose this path.



Enter Sunrise and Good People. The power trio of childhood friends, Tsayffo (lead vocals, guitar, percussions) and Master Mind (lead guitar, vocals,) along with Mercury Brown (drums, loops, vocals) overlay and cross-cut music, culture and insight, hard-won through first-hand experience of travelling from their Montreal home to India and beyond. Their music reflects the strength of spirit overcoming the chaos of the human condition – such as the state of the Tibetan Buddhist monks whom they met with in Dharamsala. This meeting of minds & hearts inspired an anthem for human rights, I WON’T FALL DOWN, performed for the Dalai Lama in Ottawa to an audience of 7,000+. Their songs are commercially appealing, personal and universal in theme and context, and radio-active across Canada.



Their 2009 recording debut, RISE UP includes three songs featured on the 2010 film soundtrack for LUCIDITé PASSAGÈRE, nominated for 2011 Best Soundtrack at the 2011 Prix Jutra (the French-language counterpart to the Canadian Screen Awards.) They have since placed ten more songs on the Gémeaux award-winning TV series, OUI SURF, with more tracks slated for upcoming seasons.



Damian Taylor (Bjork, Arcade Fire, Tegan and Sara) and Jean Massicotte (Patrick Watson, Lhasa, Bran Van 3000) mixed their current mini-LP, CLOSER TO THE FLAME, released in the spring of 2015. The album was mastered by Grammy-nominee Emily Lazar (David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Foo Fighters) at The Lodge in Greenwich Village.




In addition to regular touring, the band showcased at MIDEM (France), Canadian Music Week, NXNE (Toronto), Pop Montreal as well as headlining concerts for ROCK FOR TIBET. Since their early forays to raise awareness and support for displaced Tibetans, with the recent spread of people displaced by their own governments, Sunrise and Good People continue to shine a light through their music on all fronts and across all borders.

Certains éléments clés sont nécessaires pour réaliser ce rêve; une profondeur et une originalité artistique combinée à une capacité de communiquer avec sagesse et clarté des chansons accessibles commercialement... peu d'élus choisissent ce chemin!

Bienvenue dans le monde de Sunrise and Good People! Un ''power'' trio issu d'une amitié d'enfance incluant ''Tsayffo'' (voix, guitar, basse, percussions), ''Master Mind'' (guitare, voix) et ''Mercury Brown'' (batterie, voix, échantillonnage) alliant cultures et métissage musical, découlant de leurs voyages partout à travers la planète dont l'Afrique, l'Europe, l'Asie et l'Amérique!

Leur musique est le reflet d'une résilience entre l'esprit de l'homme et le chaos de l'humanité, et plus particulièrement en lien avec la condition des moines tibétains, qu'ils ont rencontrés à Dharamsala en Inde en novembre 2010. Cette rencontre, émouvante et inspirante, a poussé le groupe a composer une pièce pour les droits de l'homme, I WON'T FALL DOWN, dont le vidéo clip a été visionné par plus de 7000 personnes à la conférence du Dalai Lama à Ottawa en 2012, qu'ils ont d'ailleurs rencontré. Leurs pièces sont commercialement contagieuses, universelles, personnelles et engageantes, en plus d'être actives sur le réseau des radios canadiennes!

De leur premier album, Rise Up, trois pièces se retrouvent sur la trame sonore du film ''Lucidité passagère'' qui a été nominé pour meilleure musique originale au Jutra 2011. Aussi, l'émission de télé Oui Surf, gagnante aux Gémeaux 2013, a propulsée le groupe vers de nouveaux horizons en utilisant plus de 10 chansons dans sa production. Le succès fut instantané et l'expérience s'est poursuivit pour la saison 2, diffusé sur le canal Évasion.

DAMIAN TAYLOR (Bjork, Arcade Fire, Tegan and Sara) et JEAN MASSICOTTE (Patrick Watson, Lhasa, Jean Leloup) ont prit en main le mix de leur mini-LP, CLOSER TO THE FLAME, sortit en mars 2015. Le matriçage de l'album a été effectué par Emily Lazar, nominée au GRAMMY (David Bowie, Paul McCartney, Foo Fighters) du studio THE LODGE, dans Greenwich Village.

Actif en tournée présentement, ils ont participé à plusieurs festivals dont MIDEM (France), CMW et NXNE (Toronto) et POP Montréal, en plus d'avoir monté le projet Rock for Tibet, une série de concert bénéfice pour les réfugiés tibétains au Canada. Avec l'exode planétaire actuel, Sunrise and Good People continu de diffuser un message d'espoir à travers leur musique, sur tous les fronts et au-delà de toutes les frontières.
