About Roe Family Singers

Kim & Quillan met working for the St Louis Park school district. A whirl-wind romance followed. They married in the Spring of 2003, and started the Roe Family Singers that Fall. In 2005 their friends Rob & Leah Rule invited them to take part in a show at the newly reopened 331 Club in NE Minneapolis. Kim & Quillan were reluctant to participate, because they didn't know the 331 was under new management and DID know the reputation the 331 previously had. But, trusting their friends, Kim & Quillan decided to do the show. They had a great time at the show, met the owner, Jarret Oulman, and, a few months later, started playing there every Monday night. Kim & Quillan quickly realized they didn't have enough material to cover their slot at the 331, so they began reaching out to other musicians in the community, inviting them to sit in on Monday nights. In this way, the Monday night band evolved into an eight-piece group; this open stage policy lasted until around 2010, when the 9th member of the band, fiddler Ric Lee, joined the group. With no more room on stage at the 331, the open-stage was closed. However, Appalachian clogger Joe Hayes, of the Wild Goose Chase Cloggers, joined the group on Mondays in 2012, bringing the regular Monday night total of the group to 10! In 2011 Kim & Quillan, with the help of the Monday night band, won the prestigious McKnight Artist Fellowship for Performing Musicians. Already maintaining a full-time schedule with the band, but also working full-time day-jobs, Kim & Quillan took the award as a sign from God that it was time to pursue music as a full-time career, and left their day-jobs behind. With the increase to an already-busy schedule, not all members of the Monday night band are able to make all of our Roe Family Singers performances. We typically travel with a 4 to 5 piece group, while also doing shows as the original duo of Kim & Quillan, up to full band shows for select appearances. Regardless of how many members are on stage, the audience ALWAYS has a good time. Be KIND, be SAFE, and TREAT folks how YOU WANT TO BE TREATED. Good-time Old-time Hillbilly Music! Every Monday at the 331 Club, 8 PM, FREE!
