About Hollowphonic

Forming in Toronto in June of 1996, this group of musicians and friends led by Brad Ketchen created a small but loyal following with its sonic landscapes resembling everyone from Jane's Addiction and Portishead to the Cure and My Bloody Valentine. In June 1999, the band released its debut album, Phonic 50mg, which was distributed throughout Canada on Sweet Tooth Recordings and Outside Distribution. That same year, the group had plum opening slots for Manic Street Preachers, Low, and Super Furry Animals. The group created a good following based on their experimental and strong sound. In 2002, the band released Majestic, which received acclaim and praise from local media. The group has also appeared on various British compilation albums and performed at Canadian Music Week and North By Northeast Festivals. The group took a hiatus from 2003 until 2006 for Brad's electronic side project 'In Support of Living' which eventually evolved into a band itself. Hollowphonic reformed with Brad, Justin Grant (Fjord Rowboat) on guitar, Calvin Hager (Headphone Overtone, In Support of Living) on bass and John Henley (The Endearment) on drums. The band is currently in pre-production for an upcoming full length release that will profile the band in a heavier/more moving direction. Look for shows around Southern Ontario and beyond after the new release. The Press said: "Phonic 50mg is a top-notch aural opiate, sublime tune-out material. Just lay off the heavy machinery if you're indulging" Ben Rayner, The Toronto Star "raging reverb hurricanes that manage to melt the mind while making the heart skip a beat" Stuart Berman, Eye Magazine "moody melodies add to the wavering of the songs, they float and slowly creep into your psyche in a magical way. One word to describe the music...brilliant. I definitely adore this majestic band and so should you by picking up a copy of this atmospheric masterpiece!" Luca D'Addario, Tandem Magazine
