OneLove presents "Get Up Stand Up"
Thursday, February 22nd, 2018
8:00 PM
7:30 Doors Open / $5 18+ Come rock with us at Episode 2 of #OneLoveAtHeartland, a new monthly series hosted by house band Adam Gottlieb & OneLove! For the month of February, the title and theme of the night will be "Get Up Stand Up!" in honor of both Bob Marley's birthday and Black History Month. We'll be playing and jamming on some classic and lesser-known Marley tunes (including both political songs AND some love songs for Valentine's Day)! For our feature of the night we are honored to host singer-songwriter Abraham Mellish. After surviving the atrocities of two civil wars in his hometown of Monrovia, Liberia, Abraham arrived in America as a child refugee. Since then he has channeled his pain and experiences into remarkably beautiful music that has garnered him attention everywhere he plays, which has included an extensive list of venues in Chicago and beyond, including a residency at House of Blues. He does not perform frequently these days, so it is truly a special treat for us that he agreed to play this show! For our Rogers Park spotlight we are geeked to present BobMarlo, a 27-year-old Chicago South-Side-born emcee, member of TCO Hip Hop collective, circle keeper, urban farmer, anarchist prison abolitionist, and community activist from Chicago with deep connections to the Rogers Park neighborhood and the Movement for Black Lives. As always your house band will be your friendly neighborhood social justice band, Adam Gottlieb & OneLove. With danceable music and lyrics directly inspired by current struggles for social justice, OneLove offers our songs to the soundtrack of our revolution. Because the band’s message is for everyone, the musical repertoire intentionally crosses many genres to create musical experiences with something for everyone: Folk, Funk, Blues, Rock, Pop, Hip Hop, Reggae, Jazz and more. Show up on time to catch the #OneLoveAtHeartland theme song and the Rogers Park Spotlight feature, and stick around till the end if you wanna hop in on the jams/ciphers!
