Iridas & Impressionism feat. Chris Woods
Sunday, January 14th, 2018
Join us at The San Fernando for an evening with an electro-chamber band - Iridas featuring violinist Chris Woods, as they explore the cross section of French impressionism, jazz, and the remote edges of American popular music. Iridas presents a blend of music that engages with these ineffable ideas, from the source material itself, Debussy and Ravel, to jazz, to original compositions by Matt Smith. Iridas was formed in 2015 with a mission to seek and find a meaningful interface between the traditional classical music and populist music. The ensemble is one part classical piano quartet and one part rock band, with a dash of live electronic dance music. The lush harmonies and colors of Maurice Ravel combined with the rhythmic and textural intricacy of Gyorgy Ligeti are apparent in his orchestral and chamber music, but pop music’s sensual, psychedelic underbelly make an appearance as well; jazz fusion, alternative rock, and the LA beat scene have all made an impact. The result is unrecognizable simply as classical crossover - Iridas is something new. $10 suggested-pay what you can. Street parking plentiful, excellent food and drink options, see you there!
