With the Autumn 2017 release of their first album, And I'm Right, Sami Stevens and the Man I Love are carving out their rightful place in the NYC RnB scene. And I'm Right, released on vinyl through Leesta Vall Records, gives an imaginative, fresh take on old, warm sounds and grooves, drawing comparison to groups like Emily King, Amy Winehouse and Hiatus Kaiyote. The record weaves through influences of Jazz, Classic RnB and Soul, Blues and modern RnB, unified by Stevens' compelling voice as a songwriter. And I'm Right is a window into Stevens' world, telling stories of vulnerability, love, optimism, growing pains, and fiercely powerful perseverance. “And I’m Right” has the mark of maturity and that’s a rare thing to find these days...the lyrics often impress as well with “She Is God” and “Child They Said Was Mine” mixing together Phoebe Snow style lyrical intelligence with a concise emotional impact." -Bluesbunny Sami Stevens and the Man I Love has already secured residencies at Pine Box Rock Shop and, currently, Parkside. Stevens, the band's leader, has toured internationally with various acts, having played with artists like Jason Moran, Thomas Pridgen, Fred Hersch, J.G. Thirwell of Foetus, and Shannon Powell. Additionally, her work with soundtrack band Tredici Bacci has been featured by publications like Rolling Stone and the New Yorker. Stevens studied Jazz at the New England Conservatory of Music under Dominique Eade and John McNeil, having graduated in 2015. Formed that same year, the Man I Love includes Eitan Akman on guitar, Bob Edinger on drums, Jed Lingat on bass, Noah MacNeil on keys, Kazemde George on tenor sax.
