Memphis Bleek emerged on the scene in 1996 with his featured debut on the Reasonable Doubt album alongside now music mogul, rapper and friend, Jay-Z. In 1999, he hit the streets running with his first album, Coming of Age, which was released under Def Jam on Roc-A-Fella Records. Born under the name Malik Cox, which ironically enough gives him the initials "M.C.", Bleek was raised in the Brooklyn based Marcy Projects. The name "Bleek" was a nickname he received growing up, while the name "Memphis" comes from one of his favorite cities.
