Thomas Godoj, Polish Tomasz Jacek Godoj, (born March 6, 1978 in Rybnik, Poland) is a Polish-German rock singer and songwriter.In 2008 he won the fifth season of the RTL casting show Deutschland sucht den Superstar (DSDS).His parents moved with him and his sister to Germany in 1986 and settled in October 1988 in Recklinghausen.After attending secondary school and passing the Fachabiturs, he completed an apprenticeship as a technical draftsman. Subsequently, he took up a degree in civil engineering at the University of Bochum, but he discontinued the music. Thomas Godoj is the father of a daughter and a son.His first musical steps were as a singer in bands like Cure of Souls, Fluxkompensator, Tonk! and WiNK. With the formation Cure of Souls in 2003 he won the Newcomer Festival in Recklinghausen. With Tonk! He made German-language rock music from 2003 to mid-2005, whose self-written lyrics he interpreted as a lead singer. At the VW Sound Foundation competition, the band reached the top 10 and won a sponsorship award.From 2005 to May 2007 Godoj was a singer with the band WiNK. With rock songs such as Liebe zur Sonne, Winterkinder or Still, the group played in April 2007 on the Coca-Cola Newcomer Tour as part of a concert by Adam Green in the Muffathalle in Munich.In the summer of 2007, Godoj applied as a candidate in the casting show Germany looking for the superstar, where he penetrated with a markedly rocky selection of songs to the finals. In each show he received by far the most votes. In the final he appeared on May 17, 2008 against Fady Maalouf and won with 62.20 percent of the audience votes; the victory was the conclusion of a record deal with Sony BMG connected. Initially, Thomas Godoj was managed by RTL juror Volker Neumüller, from whom he split up after a short time, because their `philosophies` did not match. Since then he has been independent of Dieter Bohlen and RTL.His debut single, Love Is You, hit No. 1 on the singles chart in June 2008 right away in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. After two weeks, he already received the first Golden Record for over 150,000 singles sold in Germany. His debut album Plan A! took first place in the charts in Germany and Austria in July 2008, achieved gold status in the first week of sales and platinum in October 2008.
