Monday, March 5th, 2018
11:00 AM
Vielma, Vital and Prim are part of an important cast of Venezuelan percussionists and researchers, dedicated for many years to the study of the Afro-Venezuelan music in the hand of cultists and traditional percussion experts. These outstanding performers will present a percussion demonstration that promises to bring to the SSU community unique percussive languages and textures from one of the richest musical countries of South-America and the Caribbean. This concert/demonstration is a prelude for a percussion workshop from 6pm– 9pm the same day. The repertoire of the concert comprises genres from the east-central and central coast of Venezuela such as Culo e’ Puya and Mina from Miranda state, as well as Sangueos, Golpes de Cumaco and Culo largo from the regions of Yaracuy, Carababo, and Aragua.
