About this concert
The category-shattering trio Time for Three (Tf3) transcends traditional classification, with elements of classical, country western, gypsy and jazz idioms forming a blend all its own. The standalone group’s members — violinists Nicolas Kendall and Charles Yang, and bassist Ranaan Meyer — carry a passion for improvisation, composing and arranging, all prime elements of the ensemble’s playing. Tf3’s high-energy performances are free of conventional practices, drawing instead from the members’ diverse musical backgrounds. Audiences will be enchanted with the trio’s unique arrangements of traditional repertoire alongside Meyer’s groundbreaking original compositions to complement the trio’s offerings. To date, the group has performed a wide range of engagements, including sold-out concerts at the BBC Proms, residencies at the Kennedy Center and Sun Valley Summer Symphony, and performing at the birthday party of Christoph Eschenbach, director of the National Symphony Orchestra. TV performances include ABC’s “Dancing with The Stars,” and an Emmy-winning show “Time for Three in Concert,” premiered by PBS.

Time for Three Biography
What started as a trio of musicians who played together for fun while students at the Curtis Institute for Music has evolved into TF3, a charismatic ensemble with a reputation for limitless enthusiasm and no musical boundaries.
Violinists Zacahary DePue and Nicolas Kendall first discovered their mutual love of fiddling in the country/western and bluegrass styles. Then bassist Ranaan Meyer introduced them both to his deep roots in jazz and improvisation. After considerable experimentation, the three officially formed Time for Three, or TF3 for short.
TF3 has since become an outlet for these young artists to meet on common ground in a nontraditional blending of their talents. The trio's first and self-titled CD was released in October 2002. A second recording is scheduled for release in 2004.
TF3 became affiliated with Astral Artistic Services upon winning Astral's 2003 National Auditions. Since then, TF3 has performed in an enormous variety of settings, including some that are appropriately less traditional.
