Composer, conductor, superstar and party animal: Leonard Bernstein lit up American music. He would have been 100 this year, so we’re celebrating the only way he knew how – with music! His Jeremiah Symphony packs a devastating emotional punch, while his Chichester Psalms light up the sky with sweetness and joy. But they’re both exactly as gripping, as moving and as irresistibly catchy as you’d expect from the composer of West Side Story. Christian Lindberg conducts, and mezzo Anna Larsson sings not only Brahms’s heartrending Alto Rhapsody, a piece Bernstein loved, but also the Jeremiah Symphony.
