Thick white snow, jingling sleighbells and stories by the fireside: there’s no Christmas quite like a Russian Christmas. So gather round, as conductor Elim Chan and the Orchestra tell a wintry fairy tale by Rimsky-Korsakov, take a sleigh ride with Delius and drop in on the most magical Christmas party of all time: Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker suite. Prokofiev gets the fun started with a frosted shot of musical vodka – and then we welcome an old friend, pianist Kathryn Stott, in Shostakovich’s sparkling Second Piano Concerto. Music to make hearts
warm – and cheeks glow!
