Multi-award-winning Tenebrae, renowned for the passion and precision of their performances, join cellist Oliver Coates for a seasonal sequence of French and English music.

Choral works by Poulenc and Fauré are contrasted with Saint-Saëns’ Prière and Skempton’s exquisite Six Figures for solo cello. Jonathan Harvey’s fascinating Lauds for choir and cello was inspired by the first Benedictine office before daybreak, when monks are summoned to the rising of the sun.

The evening ends with Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols with cello.
