Ray Cooper is a singer/ songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, currently living in Sweden, who started to play in bands when he was sixteen. Moving between rock, punk and world music, and working as a singer, bass guitarist and cellist, he finally hooked up with Oysterband in 1988, and continued to play with them after his move to Sweden in 2000. In 2012 they won three awards at the BBC Folk Awards for Best Group, Best Album and Best Traditional Track and were dubbed by fROOTS magazine as one of three 'Icons Of Folk'. Despite their success, Ray took the brave decision to leave the band and go solo in February 2013 and he has since been touring Europe extensively as a solo artist. He has recorded two critically acclaimed solo albums, 'Tales of Love, War and Death by Hanging', released in 2010, which was recorded in a Swedish log cabin, and his second, 'Palace Of Tears', which retains a distinct nordic flavour with the inclusion of Swedish fiddles and the Finnish kantele. A highly talented musician, singer and songwriter, a gig by Ray Cooper is not to be missed.
