Leon is very well known to Manchester audiences; his career started at Chet’s through competition successes at BBC Young Musician of the Year, Vienna (Beethoven Competition) and Leeds to its present status as a major international recitalist and recording artist.

Hans Gál will be the only unfamiliar composer on the programme - Leon has recorded his piano music, and it is well worth listening to this intriguing mix of romantic harmony and neo-classical texture in advance of coming to the recital.

The recital ends with one of Beethoven’s mighty sets of variations — with these and the Diabelli he exploded the form. This is a stylistically varied and highly stimulating programme.
