The great Kidd Jordan returns to the Boston area. He will perform with Alvin Fielder, James Brandon Lewis and Jacob Schwartz. Tontongi Eddy Toussaint, Askia Toure and Ashley-Rose will read. Other special guests to be announced. Doors open at 630, free refreshments and reception. Kidd was born in Crowley, Louisiana in 1935. He studied Music Education at Southern University. He is a lifelong educator and toured the US and Europe with musicians as diverse as Ray Charles, Big Joe Turner, Choker Campbell as well as William Parker, Hamid Drake and Marshall Allen. He has accompanied Lena Horne, Aretha Franklin, and Gladys Knight. He has resided in New Orleans since 1955. Kidd has played regularly with James Brandon Lewis in New York and Boston. This will be their engagement in Boston. James grew up in Buffalo NY and began his music studies at the age of 9. Hr received a bachelors degree from Howard University and a masters from the California Institute of Arts. This year Sonny Rollins invited James to perform with Jimmy Heath, James Carter and Ravi Coltrane at a tribute concert honoring the jazz genius.
