Catching Waves: Sym-Phonic Waves and Youth Ballet West at Baboro International Children's Festival
Sunday, October 22nd, 2017
Sym-Phonic Waves is an exciting new youth orchestra in the West of Ireland. Its talented young members, ranging in age from 13 to 23, are drawn from all across Connaught, Limerick and Clare. Under the direction of Galway conductor Sinéad Hayes, the group have already created waves with their fresh, high-energy performances of the string orchestra repertoire, recently performing to a capacity audience alongside partner youth Orchestra Schoenbuch Strings (Germany). The Sym-Phonic Waves project was conceived by the Galway Music Education Partnership under the Galway 2020 capital of culture bid, and aims to inspire this and future generations of young musicians in Galway and throughout Connaught to achieve their highest musical potential. The members of Sym-Phonic Waves are mentored by Galway Music Residency’s ensemble in Residence the RTE ConTempo Quartet, as well as by members of Ireland’s professional orchestras. 2018 will see the expansion of the current string orchestra to include wind players, with the orchestra growing to a full symphony orchestra by 2020. The orchestra will continue to build partnerships throughout Europe in the coming seasons, ensuring its place as a vital and energising force in the Irish musical landscape. Don’t miss your chance to be a part of the Sym-Phonic Waves story by seeing them in action – it promises to be an unforgettable Baboro Festival debut.
