Albert Parkes (Matthew’s great grandfather) a fine violinist, musician and extraordinary teacher from Covent Garden and his three sons Cecil (Violin and Piano), Kingsley (Violin & piano) and Milton (Piano) who between 1900 to 1940 had a profound effect on the Australian musical scene. Cecil Parkes was a child prodigy violinist who toured with International star soprano Dame Nellie Melba performing in patriot concerts around Australia and toured the USA and Canada with assistance from Dame Nellie Melba in 1916 at the age of 13. Other than Melba herself, no other Australian artist had made such an impact on such an international stage in that period. Cecil and well known Pianist May Broderick (Cecil’s wife) with Cellist Christine Frallion performed in the Strad Trio and featured on Australian’s first Music Sound Film with music by Frank Thring Senior of EFTEE productions. Matthew Fagan has followed in the footsteps of his Ancestors as a touring artist and has toured with an extraordinary array of the world's greats, including: Natalie Cole; The Original Buena Vista Social Club; Shirley Bassey; Michael Crawford and Billy Connolly. This will be a truly special night of classical music performed with renewed vigour, passion and technicality. Matthew Fagan performs on 10 String, Flamenco and Traditional Spanish Guitar "Matthew has a Latin Soul and we love his playing so much that we want to take him back home to Cuba" Ibrahim Ferrer- The Original Buena Vista Social Club "Matthew has the fire of Flamenco, The passion of Django and the fire of Santana" Melbourne Guitar Festival "A True Artist" – Paco Pena Matthew Fagan is a guitarist blessed with great charisma. Everything he does on the instrument draws you into his world. He is a virtuoso player—…Particularly in his arrangements of Spanish and Irish material, there is a fullness and idiomatic quality to the workmanship that indicate superior musicianship. This is the sort of guitar [performance] that touches the sensibilities even of listeners to whom classical music is a quite alien experience. The playing is magnetic, and the repertoire is invigorating. Highly recommended.
