Women Only Jen Kirkman Show!
Saturday, December 2nd, 2017
7:30 PM
It’s a special women’s only (trans-inclusive) comedy show! No, not just comedians who happen to be women on stage - but audience too! 87% of women have reported being sexually harassed - catcalled, groped, leered at, verbally harassed, in real life and online. We so often feel that public space doesn’t belong to us. In March of 2017, a room full of men decided on legislation about women’s health care. I want to provide a safe space for women to laugh loudly, speak freely, and feel safe - and a space where I can see what it’s like after twenty years to perform to a roomful of people that have similar experiences just being on planet Earth in our bodies. A giant portion of the proceeds (I’m not making a profit, only covering some of my travel expenses) will go to the Central Oklahoma City Clinic Planned Parenthood. Women’s healthcare has turned into just being thought of as “abortion” when actually it’s the least of what our healthcare is about. It’s legal for us to obtain birth control, have Pap smears, breast exams, prenatal services, STD testing, HIV/AIDS screenings, and even some primary care. And those rights are being threatened daily with the institutions like Planned Parenthood under siege. A portion of merchandise sold will be donated to the Central Oklahoma City Clinic Planned Parenthood. Representatives from Planned Parenthood will be on site - and happy to take any further donations!
I’ll be raffling off signed copies of both of my books, “I Know What I’m Doing (and Other Lies I Tell Myself)” and “I Can Barely Take Care of Myself” as well as other merchandise items. Women will be invited to speak at the show - with a special little quick chat session about our experiences with harassment. AND it’s just a plain old fun comedy show - come see me do material OKC hasn’t heard yet. I’ll be joking about everything from the personal to the political. Love, Jen
