About this concert
Doors open at 7:00$18 Advance | $22 At the DoorThis album came about when the Portland Cello Project was commissioned to record an EP for an upcoming tour in Alaska coinciding with Spring Breakup, when the ice begins to melt and makes otherworldly sounds. Annalisa (who grew up in Alaska) and Gideon (an expert in otherworldly sounds) found they had a wellspring of inspiration. While the chilly Alaskan landscape sets the stage, the theme evolved to reflect an emotional landscape describing search, hope, love, despair and renewed hope.Paper bellows brings together four of Portland's finest accordion players including members of The Decemberists, 3 Leg Torso and more.

Annalisa Tornfelt Biography

Annalisa Tornfelt was born and raised in Alaska, listening to classical music, Disney, and Chuck Mangione's song, “Children of Sanchez”. She played bluegrass for decades and recently discovered rock and when her bandmates ( Black Prairie) asked her to sing a cover of “The Song Remains the Same” at a New Years Eve party. “I asked Annalisa to play a few fiddle tunes with me, which soon flipped to her picking up a guitar and singing Hank Williams,” says her Black Prairie bandmate, Chris Funk. “It was simple, but it was stunning. It's those moments when she grabs the all too familiar guitar and sings a song that you realize your bandmate and friend has the unique gift and power to make the weight of the world lift for three minutes.” Annalisa released her solo album ‘The Number 8’ in March, 2015 on Woodphone Records.
