Torch singer Alyce Platt debuts at The Paris Cat with an intriguing and exhilarating show. Her unique interpretation and eclectic mix of sultry jazz standards and classic dark folk pop songs, go beyond sentimental. Her diverse selection of songs not only lament unrequited love, they rage with passion and soar with the fury of a woman scorned. Her voice can be warm and remote, intimate and hushed then emit full-throttle power. Covering a wide array of popular composers and bands of the last century right through to the present, including: The Velvet Underground, Leonard Cohen, Marianne Faithfull, Gershwin, and an “impassioned and powerful rendition of ‘Jacques Brel’s ‘Amsterdam”, Alyce and her stellar band deliver a breadth of story-telling torch songs sung with heart and soul. Alyce is one of Australia’s best-kept music secrets. You could say, she has been moonlighting as an Australian television icon in a past life - but today, her music and the caliber of musicians who come together to record her songs and perform live, are something very special. ‘Jacques Brel songs are difficult to sing, you need a singer of the calibre of Scott Walker, David Bowie, Marianne Faithfull to do them justice. Alyce's version is right up there with those’ BILLY PINNELL – Working Dog podcast For this show, Alyce will be joined by the incredible talents of Jex Saarelaht on piano, Jonathan Zion on double bass and Sam Lemann on guitar.
