The seven-voice vocal jazz ensemble, Groove for Thought, returns to the Seattle music scene with new songs, a new face, and a video crew! It’s been a while since they’ve performed on their own turf, and they’ve been missing their favorite crowd. Come be a part of the video shoot – they’ll sing some old favorites and a lot of new ones.ENSEMBLE BIOThe seven singers of Groove for Thought have been blowing audiences away for over fifteen years. Their jazz influenced arrangements of both standard and original tunes have earned them the reputation as one of the finest contemporary vocal ensembles in the world.Groove for Thought has toured extensively throughout North America and Europe, sharing their unique brand of music with school, concert, nightclub, and festival audiences alike. Performance highlights include the Europa Cantat Festival, the Polyfolia World Choral Symposium, the Jazz Education Network Conference, the American Choral Directors Association Conference, and many of the finest jazz festivals in the United States including the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival, the University of Northern Colorado/Greeley Jazz Festival, and the Oceanside Jazz Festival. Groove for Thought also had the opportunity to open several shows for comedian Jay Leno. In an appearance on The Choir with Aled Jones on BBC 3 Radio, Jones commented, “Unbelievable singing—I almost feel like I need to lie down after listening.”In 2010, Groove for Thought was selected as one of ten vocal groups from around the United States to appear on the second season of NBC’s highly rated vocal competition show The Sing-Off. As judges on the show, Boyz II Men founder Shawn Stockman commented, “Y’all are so cool it hurts,” while Singer/Songwriter Ben Folds noted that Groove had, “style, soul, personality, and killer tone—a truly classy music performance.” In addition to appearing on four of the show’s five episodes, Groove is featured on The Sing-Off: Harmonies for the Holidays and The Sing-Off: The Best of Season 2.Groove for Thought has four studio albums available. In 2006 the group released their self-titled debut. “Their arrangements are stunning representations of the possibilities of vocal harmonies,” reviewed the Contemporary A Cappella Society. 2011’s Inspired features contemporary jazz-influenced takes on songs from many of the pop and rock artists that have influenced the group. In 2013, Groove’s first holiday album, Songs of Good Cheer, was released to rave reviews.
