For Episode 8, we’re delighted to present a lineup of local talents. Cool Room wouldn’t exist without the support of the incredible Melbourne music community, and we are constantly inspired by our hometown musicians, many of whom are world-class. We’re fortunate and excited to be welcoming four that we’ve admired from afar, until now...
Moopie (A Colourful Storm)
https://soundcloud.com/moopie
You could easily argue that Moopie is Australia’s finest selector. He is a technician on the turntables, effortlessly traipsing across genres, moods and tempos. His club selections lie in the domains of the experimental, the strange, and on occasion, the challenging; ranging from bass and jungle, to EBM, industrial techno and more. His label, A Colourful Storm, curates some of the most interesting and forward-thinking artists in dance music. Moopie has supported a litany of incredible artists but really needs no cosigns – his work as a DJ and label head speaks for itself. Always exciting (and never predictable) we’re stoked to see what ~Moopie Moments~ he creates for us at 24 Moons.
Hannah Lockwood [LIVE] (Phile, Deep Seeded Records)
https://soundcloud.com/lkwd-music
Hannah Lockwood’s music is heavy, visceral and tough. As one half of industrial techno duo Phile (alongside Gareth Psaltis) she produces hammering and dissonant music at the vanguard of the intersection between punk, noise, and techno. In her own productions she coaxes deep, textured, driving beats from her massive modular synthesiser. Audio engineer by day, staple of the Sydney techno scene by night, Hannah has been at the top of our list for a long time – we’re lucky enough to get her for a ~rare~ solo live performance.
Noise in My Head

Australia’s premier tastemaker makes a long overdue first appearance at Cool Room. Michael Kucyk’s “freeform sonic excursion” on the airwaves has run for over a decade now, from humble beginnings on RRR to his current slot as a fortnightly program on NTS Radio. Noise In My Head is the platonic ideal of the formless DJ, moving like water to fill the needs of the context he is playing for, drawing selections from his encyclopedic knowledge of the contemporary musical canon. He’s delved deep into both international and local histories of sound, championing other great locals across his eponymous label and secondary outing Efficient Space. A consummate gentleman and truly gentle man, Michael is a national treasure and true ~hometown hero~ with an unparalleled depth and breadth of records in his bag.
Mariah Sliwczynski
There’s maturity in Mariah’s selections and her understanding of pace and narrative eclipse those of far senior DJs. Mariah grew up on a healthy diet of punk, but after discovering bands like Throbbing Gristle she journeyed into experimental electronica and subsequently techno, particularly labels like Sandwell District, Downwards, and Blueprint. She’s begun to bring her incredibly refined taste and keen ear for, texture, subtlety, and intricate sounds out of her bedroom and into the club in the past year, treating listeners to tracks chosen without compromise and with proper consideration to set and setting.
