Calypso with a twist - Kobo Town, named for the Port-of-Spain, Trinidad neighbourhood where calypso was created, playfully reimagines the genre. Founder Drew Gonsalves was born in Trinidad and later moved to Canada. The band showcases buoyant brass rhythms and intricate guitar work woven with clever social commentary and poignant poetry. Kobo Town received a Juno Award nomination for their 2013 album JUMBIE IN THE JUKEBOX. WHERE THE GALLEON SANK, released in 2017, has already garnered praise for its activist lyrics and expressive, energetic Caribbean vibe.
