Finland's got a lot of things going for it -- mandatory coffee breaks, the Northern Lights and the most heavy-metal bands per capita in the world. But its greatest cultural contribution may just be Jean Sibelius, the much beloved Romantic Era composer. His countryman, Osmo Vanska, will be at the baton for the San Francisco Symphony concert "A Finnish Tableau", featuring two of his most important works. Latvian violinist Baiba Skride is set to perform his violin concerto, and the evening kicks off with Sibelius' dramatic tone poem "Finlandia" -- which was part of the score for Finnish director Renny Harlin's hit movie "Die Hard 2: Die Harder". The SFS performance builds to a triumphant climax with Shostakovich's famed First Symphony.
