Czech conductor Jakub Hrusa leads the San Francisco Symphony in a program of classic "Pursuits of Passion" from his country's greatest composers, including Dvorak, Smetana and Janacek. Violinist Piotr Anderszewski will also feature in this concert at Davies Symphony Hall. Considered the father of Czech music, Smetana takes you on a musical journey down the Vlatava River, bringing to life Bohemian forests, castles, ancient ruins, peasant weddings and enchanting river nymphs. Based on a novel by Nikolai Gogol, Janacek's rhapsody "Taras Bulba" captures an aging warrior and his two sons as wrestle with love, honor and death.
