Folks have nothing but a great time at a Darren Watson gig! Veteran bluesman Darren Watson has been plying his trade playing the blues in New Zealand for over three decades now. In that time he has led chart-topping rhythm and blues show-band Chicago Smoke Shop in the 80s, worked alongside local hero Midge Marsden in the 90s, and established a stellar solo career since then that includes a Tui-nominated record, international songwriting acclaim, and performing on stages with artists like Keb Mo, Billy Boy Arnold, Doug McLeod, Eli Paperboy Reed, Doctor John, and even being invited to jam with Mavis Staples guitarist , and LA blues legend Rick Holmstrom. He’s also managed to fight the NZ government all the way to the Court of Appeal and win, after his 2014 #5 single ‘Planet Key’ was banned. He is joined by his band The Dangerous Experts, a lineup that includes the incredible Rick Cranson (Little Bushman) on drums, Steve Moodie (ex-Thomas Oliver Band, Miles Calder & The Rumours) on basses, Dayle Jellyman (Three Rays) on (real uprtight!) piano and organ, and Delia Shanly (Matt Hay & The Makers) on percussion. The band plays a goodtime brand of blues that is guaranteed to get you grooving in your seat. And as a frontman Watson has been known to have people laughing one moment and almost crying the next. This is a truly world class outfit. You'll have a ball. “ I've just been checking you out, Darren. You're a mutha! " Rick Holmstrom, (Mavis Staples Band, Wlliam Clarke Band) " No-one plays the blues like Darren Watson. Over the better part of three decades he has developed a style that, while touching on all of the greats who inspired him, is personal, powerful and identifiably his own."
