Friday: Two Singles Matches/Saturday: One Doubles Match/Sunday: Two Singles Matches Matches will be played on an indoor hard court. This will be the first-ever tennis event held at the venue, and the first time Davis Cup has been hosted in Edmonton since 1996. The winner of this tie in September will earn its spot in the 2018 World Group, while the loser will be relegated to zonal competition for next year. Canada has been in the World Group for six straight years, while India is attempting to make the top level of Davis Cup competition for the first time since 2011. The Canadians are participating in this play-off tie due to a 3-2 loss to Great Britain in the 2017 World Group first round earlier this year. Davis Cup by BNP Paribas is the largest annual international team competition in sport with more than 135 nations competing on a yearly basis. Only the top 16 nations qualify for the World Group each year and thus play for the prestigious Davis Cup title.
