Berlioz penned his epic "Symphonie fantastique" as a self-portrait of the composer's obsession for a beautiful woman -- one that drove him to explore the sinister side of his imagination. After the work's second premiere, the object of Berlioz's affection realized that the work was about her and agreed to marry him. Also on the program for this concert is Francesconi's hallucinogenic concerto "Duende - The Dark Notes". Both modern and sonically beautiful, it's a perfect program partner for Berlioz' drug-induced dream/nightmare from 185 years earlier. Sought-after Finnish conductor Susanna Mälkki leads the Los Angeles Philharmonic and violinist Leila Josefowicz for this concert at Walt Disney Concert Hall in L.A.
