Hula dancing is like the Hawaiian islands themselves: seemingly calm and serene on the surface, but volcanic and explosive deep below. Aihaa is the low-postured, vigorous, bombastic style of hula that springs from the eruptive volcano persona Pele and Hi'iaka. Experience a whole new side of the islands with Halau O Kekuhi, a group celebrated for its mastery of the aihaa style of hula dance and oli chant. Kumu hula Nalani Kanaka'ole and Huihui Kanahele-Mossman showcase the lesser-known, red-hot culture of Hawaii at ASU Gammage in Tempe.
