Chaconne Code - RECITAL
Sunday, November 12th, 2017
"THE CHACONNE CODE" at CONTRAPUNTAL HALL, Sat. May 12 2012 Bach´s famous Chaconne in D-minor is the last movement of the second Partita BWV 1004. which is performed in its entirety in an ambitious transcription for solo guitar. The juxtaposition of Bach´s a-cappella chorals with all movements of the D-minor Partita reveals an unbroken connection between Bach´s secular and spiritual work, and exposes the listener to the personal tragedy of the death of Bach´s first wife Maria Barbara and the subsequent consolation Bach must have found in his faith, and in his work. As the final movement, the " Chaconne", is presented in an arrangement for guitar and four voices highlighting the wordless chorale quotations hidden within the piece. "Eva Beneke ́s transcriptions and performances of Bach's magnificent music are presented as if Bach had written them for the guitar." Pepe Romero, classical guitar virtuoso (Spain/ USA) An event in collaboration with the Bach Society of Minnesota.
