Director of Data Engineering

Are you an experienced developer with a huge passion for music? Bandsintown.com is looking for a Director of Data Engineering. You would work with our small team of enthusiastic and talented developers and lead all data aggregation and processing activities for the company. You must be an experienced, solid developer, who is self motivated, and able to work well in a small team environment, as well as handle the tight deadlines and the stresses of a startup atmosphere. You have your own computer and your just as efficient working remotely as you are in the office.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the all data aggregation and processing activities.
  • Develop strategies for aggregation, quality assurance, and maintenance of our comprehensive live music database.
  • Monitor data processing systems and ensure scalability as demand increases.
  • Concert data quality assurance; take the initiative to resolve any related issues.
  • Ensure that our platform is at all times the most comprehensive in the industry.
  • Interact with outsourced developers and strategic partners as necessary.
  • Manage and grow a data team.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience providing and scaling an infrastructure, from an early stage to maturity, to support data-intensive web applications and services, ideally within a UNIX/Linux environment.
  • Experience designing and implementing systems to aggregate noisy, ambiguous, heterogeneous data from multiple sources.
  • Experience designing and implementing systems using a combination of automated and manual processes to ensure a high level of data quality.
  • Proven ability to effectively lead, motivate, and grow a team of developers.
  • Familiar with online music services and social networks.
  • Development experience using Ruby / Ruby on Rails
  • Version control using Git
  • Database experience preferably with MySQL
  • Experience with RSpec / Cucumber or similar testing frameworks
  • BA/BS in Computer Science or related.

Bonus Points:

  • Agile/lean development practices
  • Amazon EC2 Experience
  • Using popular data processing and search tools such as Sphinx, Nutch, Lucene, Hadoop, Ferret

Bandsintown is looking for a music loving, social network savvy intern to help us connect music fans to live music.

As a Bandsintown intern, you'll have the opportunity to help design and execute our social media strategy, manage the Bandsintown virtual street team, and grow your network among the movers and shakers of the music scene-- allthewhile getting access to free concerts and shows, exclusive events, and other perks. We're a growing company-- if this works out, its likely we'll want to continue working with you in the future!

  • Maybe you play in a band (or just know lots of people who do), promote shows or work at a venue? Whatever the case, you know your way around the local music inustry.

  • You're smart, strategic, creative, self- motivated and collaborative.
