About DETHRONE THE SOVEREIGN

Dethrone The Sovereign is a 6-piece progressive metal band from Salt Lake City, UT. Originally formed in 2008, the band has released two 6-song EP's and one full length album. They've also completed a handful of tours across the western U.S. Blending classical and modern influences, they seek to distinguish themselves as a unique presence among the metal community. Autocracy Dismantled Reviews: "Dethrone the Sovereign = The Human Abstract – clean vox + bit o’ Between the Buried and Me. This local prog-metal outfit is one to watch out for. They display maturity in every inch of their presentation, from songwriting and recording/producing to oft-neglected areas such as packaging and art direction. I love the interesting instrumental accents, which are used sparingly and organically, and so they don’t become as much of a gimmick as they sometimes can. Songs travel the peaks and valleys of melody and progressive heaviness in well-formed, but not altogether groundbreaking structures. Screams are deep and thick and do well to drag heartfelt melody through the dark. What they may lack in overt originality is made up for in competency and confidence, and really, there’s nowhere for them to go but up." - SLUG MAG "It isn't often that you find a band that's doing stuff that NOBODY else is doing, and has an entirely unique sound going for them. Dethrone The Sovereign is that band. EASILY one of the best, most original EP's in the deathcore/metalcore genre this year. Sounds like an off-the-wall fusion of Ovid's Withering, Lorelei, The Wrath of Vesuvius, and even some neoclassical-ish Art By Numbers influence. Don't be the idiot that misses this." - DuckCoreBlog "Dethrone The Sovereign's debut EP, Autocracy Dismantled, has six songs and is about 20 minutes in length. Autocracy Dismantled has a lot of different sounds and elements, and I believe this EP stands apart from the rest of the progressive deathcore albums released this year (thus far). It has a symphonic, death metal, relaxing feel to it; however, it does not stray away from the crushing deathcore sound. The introduction track "The Manchurian Waltz" shows Dethrone The Sovereign's symphonic side the most, as the whole song is filled with symphonic and melodic sounds. Violins, drums, guitars, piano, and other instruments are heard throughout the song, and they all work very well together. This song is perfect to start out this album, as it prepares the listener for something great. Transhuman" is the third track on this album, and has a more ambient sound compared to the previous tracks before it. Ambient sounds play throughout the song until around a minute, then Nick's guitar breaks in accompanying the high screams of Carson. A well placed breakdown at 1:40 gives breakdown lovers something to enjoy. The remainder of the song continues with a melodic/symphonic sound, but with a heavy deathcore sound Dethrone The Sovereign does so well. The interlude of this album "Autocracy Dismantled" is filled mainly with symphonic sounds, like the piano and what I believe is a wooden guiro (not entirely sure). At around :30 the guitars break with a very melodic sound and a breakdown ends the interlude. The final track on this album and my personal favorite is "Oblivious To Consequence." It is very fast-paced, and very "in your face" deathcore. Dethrone The Sovereign strays away from the symphonic sound they had in previous songs with this song, and goes for a straight deathcore/death metal sound. However, they do not stray far with a small break of piano at around 2:45; which then leads into a guitar solo at 3:00. This song definitely shows why they consider themselves progressive deathcore, because the progressive sound in this song is very prevalent. Autocracy Dismantled is one of the best EPs thus far to be released in 2013, hands down, and is definitely in my top five for the year. It is filled with everything I could want from a progressive deathcore band, and then some. If Ovid's Withering had a child, that child would be Dethrone The Sovereign. I highly recommend this EP to anyone who is a fan of Ovid's Withering, Scorned Deity, or is just a fan of symphonic and progressive deathcore. Score: 5 / 5" - Pigsquealsandbreakdowns.com "From the very beginning, with the hearing of the orchestral intro, I knew this would be a well worth listening to. About half way through the first track, which is titled “The Manchurian Waltz”, I found myself tapping my finger on the mouse as I listened to this instrumental waltz. The second track, which is titled “Catastrophobia”, took me by surprise with powerful vocals of frontman Carson Wittwer. It instantly drew me in, for more of what this album had to offer. The powerful vocals and vocal range, is one of a kind, as well as, a great mix with that of upbeat djent riffs, fast paced drum beats and double bass. This album featured six amazing tracks, three of which are fast paced and heart pumping with mind blowing lyrics, the other three of which are just as great, but with a softer instrumental. This was a very well put together album, one which I thoroughly enjoyed listening to. I will most certainly be adding this to my personal collection to come back for another listen. I give this album a solid rating of 10 out of 10." - New-Transcendence.com "I’m going to listen to an album and just tell you what I think as it’s playing. Sort of like an album review but not really as it wasn’t submitted to me properly. This was something I found while exploring the endless bank of music over there at Bandcamp. I came across this metalcore album by a band known as Dethrone The Sovereign, a band I’ve never heard of before. The opening track is an instrumental and it’s highly interesting and very enjoyable. “The Manchurian Waltz” is very well done and it has a very progressive sound to it. It’s good so far! However, I wonder how the vocals sound… The vocals instantly kick in on the next track and it doesn’t disappoint!!! The vocals are raw, low and pretty rad. “Catastrophobia” is pretty gnarly and this band has made me a fan with only a listen of two songs. They are talented musicians and their sound isn’t cut and paste from many other bands. Progressive, technical yet still maintaining the melodic sense of music from metalcore, these cats are damn good! I recommend checking them out on Bandcamp and Facebook. Support them!" - Headbangorgtfo.com Full Album Stream: https://youtu.be/fa0f0v0kRD8
