About The Drood

The Drood is an Electronic-Rock band from Denver, Colorado with a penchant for dark dream-like soundscapes and oddly endearing melodies. Established by vocalist and guitarist Nathan Jamiel and drummer Daniel Watts in 2012, the duo explore a wide range of sonic aesthetics and creative influences. The band's music is a combination of guitar-led Post-Rock, interwoven with psybient melodies that boldly expand to the fringes of electro, psychedelic, shoegaze, and industrial making for an insightfully experimental sound. There is an other-worldliness and intensity to their music which seeks to speak to the soul, and a fascinating overlap between mysticism and skepticism, inspiration and despair. The Drood push the boundaries of what is typically expected, allowing the listener to encounter the abnormal, the uncomfortable, and the beautiful.

Nathan and Daniel started playing music together in 2007 as members of the live electronic band In Better Senses at a time when indie-rock was king in the Mile High City and most darker, experimental music was scattered underground, coalescing around the noise and industrial scenes of Backwards Records. The Drood began opening for Orbit Service shows in 2013, a band for which both Jamiel and Watts have also performed-in, and whom helped The Drood establish themselves in Denver.

Collaborating with various artists including keyboardist Stuart Mizrahi, bass guitarist Haden Peltier, keyboardist Tara Earl and guitarist Fletcher Williams, The Drood recorded and performed in various configurations, experimenting with the lineup and process and producing their self-titled debut full-length album released in 2016.

By 2018 The Drood had settled firmly into the idea of a two-person project and in March of that year released the single and music video Psychosphere, followed in August by the single and music video Charles Mangrove. In 2019 SINGLES was released as a limited printing CDR which featured all three previously released singles.

Jamiel has collaborated with Mark Spybey formerly of Zoviet France, and Download and sits-in with his current project Dead Voices On Air when the band performs in the mid-west. The Drood was scheduled to join Dead Voices on Air and Orbit Service for a five-city south-western US tour in the spring of 2020, just as the pandemic hit, which forced the tour to be indefinitely postponed.

The Drood used the pandemic-time to wrap-up production on their second full-length studio album Totally Comfortable™, available on 12" 180g white vinyl September 11, 2021.
