About In Control

Hardcore band from,

Oxnard, California
United States,

Started in August 1999. The HC scene in Oxnard was at an
all time low, and shows that summer never peaked about 30 or 40 kids.
Zack's old band had fizzled back in the Spring and it left a real sour taste in
his mouth. He decided to move from vocals to guitar and write every
song, so no matter what members came and went, the band would
persevere.

Zack recruited Ryan Fredette (Vocals), Chris Holden (bass), and Tony
Melino (drums) to start... basically three retards like Zack
who had little skill, but much desire to play. Recorded there demo for
free with friends at the Ghost Chamber in Ventura, CA and it came
out a week before there first show at Lazerstar in Oxnard, CA.

This was the last Lazerstar show ever, but the beginning of a new era
for the Nard. A couple months later they put out our first 7" called "The
Nard Curse e.p." on Zack's own label, Camel Clutch. They did there first
NorCal weekend with Kill Your Idols and had a blast. They learned a lot
from them. The first year was an amazing year, and raised a
lot of eyebrows everywhere they went in So Cal, mostly due to the fact
that they brought about 25 friends with us to every show. The year
culminated with a show at the Living Room in Goleta, CA on December
16th 2000, for a show that was documented on the Intense Energy 7",
that Zack released shortly after.

Ryan and Zack had saved up enough money, and planned to release there
first LP, but Daniel Sant convinced Zack that he should talk to Dave Mandel
first. Much to his surprise, Mandel backed the idea of doing there record,
and they spent the money that they had saved up for there first LP on an '89
Dodge Ram Van. They recorded the "Another Year" LP in the summer of
2001 and left for there first full US tour with friends Fields of Fire shortly
after. The tour was a true test of character. On the 3 1/2 week tour Zack
thought they played two shows to more than 25 kids and slept in the van
every night except for about 4. The road breaks a lot of dudes, but
Ryan and Zack were amped to get out there again. It wouldn't happen until
June 2002, when they embarked on our 2nd US tour, this time for five
weeks.

They wrote and recorded "The Truth Hurts" LP in various spurts
surrounding the summer, and it was released in early 2003. They did two
more full U.S. tours off that record in April and September. In Control
had been plagued by member problems from the start, but they really
started catching up to them after "The Truth Hurts" came out. Zack can count
the number of ex-members they had who aren't a bi#@h on one hand.
In fact, Zack could flash a peace sign and count them on that.

It's about 4 1/2 years since the summer that In Control started this s^i* in. The
faces, bands, and times that surround them have all changed. In Control's final 7"
will be released in February on Rival Records, and IC will bite the dust
shortly after.

In Control's says thanks to the handful of dudes out there who always kept the faith.
