About Serenity Trace

SERENITY TRACE from Oslo, Norway, is a futuristic sounding aggressive metal band. Since the beginning of the millennia they have forged their sound with little regard to idioms and norms of the style, crafting a unique sound infused by high tech music while bending every genre out of shape, which they deliver with full force onto their audience everywhere. Without compromise they charge forward with a uniform face, never letting anything get in the way of the music nor the message. And by doing so, they have created something unique. Starting out as a duo in 2001, founding members M and O created the DIY debut "The Diary Of A Dying Society...” never intending to ever take their industrial, melodic digital hardcore out on to a stage. However, because of people's fascination with the duo, they were persuaded into playing a show and for the first time, they revealed their anger in December 2001 at a local show. With their faces hidden by rioter's bandanas they left their audience thrilled and perplexed. This woke a new appetite within them both, who were otherwise occupied with other bands, which led to more shows the following year as they released their debut album all by them selves. In 2003 they each went their own way, pursuing education and careers in other parts of the world. Mid way through 2004 they returned to their home town with the intent of pursuing the band further but decided to take it one step up. Gathering a selection of former band mates they added a drummer, a guitar player, a bass player and a DJ to add to the vocalists and the sequencer. In December 2004 they had their first rehearsal as a band. Six months later they recorded an EP titled "2005 Distortion", which gained some good reviews and a lot of attention. Serenity Trace started playing frequent shows and played before bands like Susperia, Purified in Blood, Stonegard and more at various festivals. They also joined forces with other local bands and quickly established a reputation as a live band worth seeing in the Oslo underground metal scene. They played the first Death Match in 2006, hosted at Club Maiden (R.I.P.) in Oslo and came out number four out of sixteen hand picked bands for the competition. After this, they were considered a well established band in the Oslo scene. With both Club Maiden and Sounds Of Unity in their back, they played shows all around the south eastern part of Norway, supporting some major names in the scene, both foreign and domestic. This also led to their music getting wide spread attention on the internet. In the years to follow, Serenity Trace would play Stavanger Punk Rock festival amongst other larger events and club shows. In 2006 they were also joined by a second guitarist and finally the line up was complete. In 2006 Serenity Trace began the recording of their debut full length album, "7th Revolution" at Studio Lån in Ås, Norway. Consisting of eleven original tracks, it was finished in November 2006 but they hit a road bump shortly after when the first guitarist decided to quit the band because of personal issues. They quickly found a replacement but not long after that, the bass player was expecting a child and decided to leave as well. Around the same time the drummer had to leave the band because of personal reasons and the lack of time to pursue a musical career. Because of this the band decided to postpone the release of the album until they were able to play shows again. Luckily, it didn't take long before they had a new drummer and bass player and by the end of 2007 they were already rehearsing with the new line up. In June 2008 they performed at Tårnåsen Festivalen and Musikkfest Oslo with the new line up and a new era commenced for Serenity Trace. Remaining true to the original idea and sound they hit the live scene even harder throughout 2008 and when they finally played the release show for "7th Revolution" in February 2009, three months after its official release on Binary Sounds Productions, they made their mark as a solid and established band again. Their live performances escalated for every show and they received praise from fans everywhere and from the music industry. At the end of 2009 Serenity Trace was invited to compete at the Death Match once again, this time hosted at Café Mono, where they delivered some of their most intense shows till this date, ending up on second place out of sixteen bands, loosing only by four votes. This, however, lead them to play both by:Larm and the Inferno festival in 2010 where they headlined the Garage stage on the club night. Eager to push the band forward, they started to write and completing several new songs in 2009 and recorded five tracks that summer at Frontrow Studios. Wanting to record an album they continued writing songs while also performing live throughout 2009, 2010 and 2011. However, during 2010, their DJ chose to leave the band and they decided to continue with the six remaining members. They entered NorDubb Studios in the summer 2011 to record the follow up to "7th Revolution". The songs started to be more guitar based as the new members made a huge influence on the creative process and they developed a more mature version of the Serenity Trace sound. This time the album, consisting of twelve tracks, were mixed at Studio Fredman (Dimmu Borgir, Bring Me The Horizon, At The Gates, In Flames and more). Shortly after the new album was finished, Danny left the band for personal reasons and Serenity Trace recruited the party meister Marty to take over the six-string duties. He was able to play the release show for the new album on October 17th, 2013, after Serenity Trace had been performing as a 5-piece for nearly a year. In 2011 Serenity Trace signed a deal with Funcom to have the tracks they recorded at Frontrow Studios included in their MMO game "The Secret World", which was released in July 2012. On October 21st, 2013, the second full length album, "Jamais Vu" was released through Negative Vibe Records and is available world wide.
