About Olsson

OLSSON is a Swedish Grammy Award winning songwriter and producer who has worked with Charli XCX, Jacob Banks and Mapei among others. An artist with an international flare both sonically and personally, he wrote and recorded his new full-length studio album TROPICAL COLOGNE in three culturally robust cities – Berlin, Stockholm and Bordeaux.

The LP started taking shape during a period of self-imposed exile in Berlin where OLSSON worked around the clock in Studio A at Tempelhof, the closed down airport from 1923. He continued work on the tracks for the new album in his space in the INGRID Studios in Stockholm, a part of the INGRID Swedish Collective (Lykke Li, Peter Bjorn and John, Miike Snow) and completed the eight songs in a French mansion on the outskirts of Bordeaux, where the album shots were taken.

TROPICAL COLOGNE is OLSSON’s slinky romantic R&B album that is a tribute to some of the classic artists of his youth including Marvin Gaye, SADE, Bryan Ferry and the Beach Boys. If his debut album MILLIONS (May 2017) was a liberating dance soundtrack to your 3AM after party, TROPICAL COLOGNE is the soundtrack to the morning after.

“It’s about discovering new hope. And I’m even wishing to see my mom slow-dance to it.”

The album opener “Pink Rambler” marries OLSSON’s distinct vocals with modern synths and rhythms over a retro guitar line. It was released on February 22nd and is the first new music since 2017’s MILLIONS LP – an orgy of house pianos, Madchester beats, untamed instrumental work and bruising soul hallmarks that earned him a Swedish Grammy, raves from Rolling Stone, NYLON, and Noisey and a “World First” on Zane Lowe’s Beats 1 show.

OLSSON will follow “Pink Rambler” with “Parasol” – TROPICAL COLOGNE’s big and instantly catchy pop-track. Also set for release ahead of the April 26th LP, “Some Summertime (feat. GRANT)” – written with Peter Bjorn and John’s Björn Yttling – and the album’s lead single, “Youthless,” a powerful pop anthem with a soulful edge. These songs and more add up to an LP filled with a warm mix of auto-tune crooning, blaring soul samples, and simple catchy melodies.

TROPICAL COLOGNE effortlessly spans topics of fear of turning blasé, escapism, new romance, failed holidays, fake living and finding mad love. All wrapped up in late summer vibes, like in his luminous cover of The Strokes classic “Hawaii,” aimed to be the ultimate soundtrack to your sunset escape.
