About Buddy Holic

Genres: Rock / Rockabilly

Pat Darcus - Doghouse Bass & Background Vocals
Bassist Pat Darcus moved from Victoria to Vancouver some 25 years ago to study music at Capilano College. Since then he has participated in the good the bad and the ugly of the Vancouver music scene; gigging and recording with many Blues, Rockabilly, R&B, Pop, C&W, etc; artists over that time. While he is also playing with a number of bands (the Deadcats, Sandy Bone & the Breakdown, reBeat Generation, Leonard & the Labrats…) he relishes the opportunity to immerse himself in the greatness that was/is Buddy Holly and bring him and his music back to life. Oh Boy!

Wayne Schmidt - Vocals & Guitar:
At the age of nine Wayne Schmidt (Vocals/Guitars) started to sing, and play guitar. A close friend played him a Buddy Holly 78 rpm record of "I'm gonna Love You Too", and that's all it took to start taking music seriously.

Wayne has played guitar, and fronted the progressive rock band "Nomadic Sanctuary" for a number of years, and has played in bands in many genres such as Jazz, Blues, Folk, Metal, and Country. Nomadic Sanctuary opened shows for Blue Oyster Cult, and Nick Gilder, and Sweeney Todd.

Many years later he recorded a CD of Buddy Holly songs for fun. Liking how they came out he decided to form a tribute band. "my friends heard the stuff, and they told me that I should put something together since you have the Strat, the right build etc; " I was doing so much research on Buddy Holly that my wife came into the studio one day, and she called me a Buddy Holic. I needed a name for the band, and there it was" Wayne also played guitar in Femme Zeppelin (Led Zeppelin Tribute that gained a great local following in Vancouver between 2012 and 2015.

Here is one of our reviews:
"Another band that is rapidly becoming a Vancouver favorite as well is Buddy Holic. This unique and hauntingly accurate tribute to Buddy Holly appeals to a large cross-section of people. It celebrates the music of a man who had uncanny talent for writing songs, but remains under-appreciated today. The singer even looks like Buddy Holly, which is disconcerting after 8 or 9 whiskeys."
