Shades of August

THE BACK STORY
Based in Dover, Delaware, the 5 piece band Shades of August play a brand of alternative rock that echoes the sound of mainstream post-grunge music from the early 2000’s. Often compared to bands such as Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam and Creed, they have quickly become a household name in area venues and the local bar scenes. From the neighborhood watering holes to large scale arenas like Lincoln Financial Field, Shades of August’s growing fan base is a testament to their music.

THE MUSIC
Originally formed in 2000 as Seventh Hour, the band has since undergone several member changes as well as transformation in musical styles. The one consistent factor has been their original songwriting which not only has garnered huge fan support, but landed them several Song of the Year awards and noteworthy review from music industry platforms such as ReverbNation. Their aggressive yet melodic musical approach, laced with deep rooted lyrics, place their songs in the same stables as mainstream artist of today.
With two full-length CD’s under their belt and a roster of musicians that finally meshed seamlessly the band finally had developed a style that delivered. In 2017, they united with legendary mixing engineer, Brian Reeves (Bob Seger, U2, Billy Idol, Selena Gomez) for their third release which was generating buzz before it had even been released.

THE PLAYERS
The band’s current lineup consists of original and founding member, Brian Dawson who is the band’s songwriter and vocals and once lost his cell phone 30 times in one day. Derek White takes the reigns as the band’s lead guitarist and shortest member in the band. When not being mistaken for a long distance trucker, Curt Johnson, former front man for Black Hat Marvel, plays rhythm guitar and contributes to vocals. Holding down the low end is new bassist and expert grass mower, Chris Sharlow also comes from Black Hat Marvel. The band’s time keeper is drummer, Daryl Hicks, a former music teacher and reigning Bear Wrestling champion.
