Rich as the legendary name Coco CHANEL implies, this talented female vocalist, CHANEL, has slowly and delicately designed a fortune in her voice. After many years of investment in her talent, this songwriter, performer and vocal arranger has quite an impressive history for one not to be signed to a major label. CHANEL attended Dillard School of the Performing Arts, and she went on to receive a B.A. Degree in Mass Communications from Bethune-Cookman College where she performed in the Concert Choir, Vesper Chorus and the Gospel Choir. The result is the luxurious, soothing voice, which can be heard atop melodic and rhythmic sounds on her latest project, produced by Alex “Godson” Richbourg (Janet Jackson, etc.), Anthony “TC” Cunningham (Derrick Dixon, Kelly Price, Chandra, etc.) and Adam Blackstone (Vivienne Green, John Legend, etc.), and co-written by Kiesha Miles (Ciara, Xscape, etc.) Her debut single, “My Life,” which is backed by the instantly recognizable Crusaders sample from their classic hit ‘Street Life’, over which Chanel has layered a self-penned soul track that has already become a cult hit in the U.K. The original MAPP promo found its way to the offices of Smooth FM where the unsigned, unknown track was soon causing the switchboard to jam every time it was played and has now become the most requested track on their playlist. CHANEL’S single, “My Life,” reached ..1 on Music Week’s Upfront Club Top 40. “My Life” is currently on the in-flight play list to Hong Kong. CHANEL has been influenced by the rich, soulful sounds of Stevie Wonder, Gladys Knight, and Jill Scott. Knowing her voice is a God given blessing, she uses this mantra as food for thought, “If you equip yourself with the strength to survive all that tries to fail you, rejection will only be a temporary condition.
