About Dogwood Lane Band

Why Dogwood Lane?

As legend has it, the dogwood tree was used to make the cross Jesus was hung on during his crucifixion. God decreed that never thereafter would the dogwood grow large enough to make a cross. But on the modern day dogwood tree, the blooms form the shape of a cross with two long, and two shorter petals. They are stained brown with red to remind us of the nails and the blood of Jesus. In the center, there is a cluster of bright red to reproduce the crown of thorns. And the plant blooms near Easter time, the sign of Jesus resurrection.

A Lane is defined as a narrow path, usually rural, that leads to a destination. Unlike a highway that connects roads to other roads, a lane is more specific in that it is a one way road that leads to a remote house, farm, or a place that has been predetermined.

While the legend of the dogwood has no biblical basis, we can see in God’s creation reminders of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. And the hope that it brings when Jesus rose from the dead. That He conquered sin and death for us, so that one day we may also, and be with Him for eternity.

When we put those two together, we get the idea of Dogwood Lane. That there is a narrow path that leads us to the cross, and a hope of resurrection in Jesus. It is our hope that through our words and music, we can lead people to Jesus. Or at least point to the way down the path toward Him. A predetermined destination.

The band consists of broken and sinful people that realize the great sacrifice Jesus made for us. The songs recall those times when we were freed from the bondage of sin, God’s amazing grace through his Son Jesus, and our desire to use our God given talents to praise Him. We are merely instruments to be used for His glory. As is all of creation.
