Maurizio Rolli is a three times graduate in double bass and jazz music studies. He is currently teaching electric bass and double bass as well as jazz harmony studies at the Conservatorio “L. D’Annunzio” in Pescara, Italy ( and in the past he worked with Conservatorio “Rossini” in Pesaro, the first in Italy to open an electric bass class, and in Foggia, Ferrara and Bologna conservatories.
He has recorded with: Peter Erskine, Mike Stern, Paolo Fresu, Danny Gottlieb, Otmaro Ruiz,Michael Manring, Hiram Bullock, Alex Acuña, Bob Mintzer, Scott Kinsey, Bill Evans, Matt Bissonnette, Alfredo Impullitti, Pierre Favre, Fabrizio Bosso, Massimo Manzi ecc... He was bass player with R.A.R.E. a quartet featuring Alex Acuña on percussions, Otmaro Ruiz on piano and Gianluca Esposito on saxes. He used to play, from 2004 till 207, with "X-perience" a trio featuring Hiram Bullock and Israel Varela.
Since September 2000 he's director of the "Rolli's tones" Big Band, which recorded with Michael Manring and Mike Stern the cd "Moodswings, a tribute to the music of Jaco Pastorius", released in October 2001, the year of the 50th anniversary of Jaco’s birth. This cd was reviewed as Cd of the month on "Bass Player" Magazine and on "Jazzit" Magazine.
His composition "Dialoghi" is featured in "Bassics" Magazine cd with M.Manring, Jaco Pastorius, Peter Erskine, Jimmy Haslip, Alain Caron ecc... He has performed in several international festivals.
He has been member as well as composer and arranger for the 'Is Ensemble', formed by ISMEZ (Istituto per lo Sviluppo Musicale del Mezzogiorno Italian Institute for the development of Southern Italy), through a selection of more than 140 Italian musicians. The ensemble was awarded 8th best band in jazz magazine Top Jazz 1997 referendum.
He has won several music competitions such as: Barga jazz '97 (1° place awarded to his “Norwegian mood” trio with Diana Torto and Filiberto Palermini); Biennale del Mediterraneo ('Iceberg' - Bologna '98 -1° prize, with Alfredo Impullittis 'Kaos Ensemble'); the Roccella Ionica 'New Talents' '98 competition - in which he was first selected as member of the orchestra conducted by C. Barthelemy (conductor of the France Jazz Orchestra) and then mentioned as orchestra best soloist (along with Achille Succi and Walter Civettini); 'Baronissi Jazz 2000' (Max Ionata quartet). He was awarded 2nd place in 'Massimo Urbani' 2000 competition.

He is a consultant, endorser for “Fbass” (legendary basses from Canada), "Mayones" basses (hand built electric basses from Poland) (that, both, produced a “Maurizio Rolli’s signature model” ) and "MarkBass" (bass amps): he usually represents these firms in Rimini Disma and Frankfurt Muzik Messe music fairs.
He has been assistant in clinics held by great musicians such as J. Patitucci, Anthony Jackson, M. Manring, Billy Sheehan, Dominique Di Piazza, Andy Timmons, H. 'el negro' Hernandez, M. Camilo, T. Clausen e S. Pyysalo and many others.
He has worked in Federico Fellini's musical 'Le notti di Cabiria' under the direction of Saverio Marconi.
He's been bass player in the Rai 1 national tv show "Notti sul ghiaccio", “Usa la testa“, “Ciak si Canta” and “Miss Italia nel Mondo”. In that shows, he’s occasionally involved as arranger for the Rai Orchestra.
In 2009 and 2013 he was the only italian musician invited at “Bass day Poland” and “Bass day UK” in Manchester with Nathan East, Adam Nitti and many other bass players from around the planet.
In 2010 his cd “Rolli’s Tones” was released: his big band performs some of the most famous tunes of hard rock music (Aerosmith, Beatles, Ozzy Osbourne and many others). Thanks to this work he started to cooperate with the Metropole Orchestra (director Vince Mendoza), Chicago Jazz Orchestra and the Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese directed by Ettore Pellegrino. He will give his contribution as arranger and composer such as bass player, working with international stars such as Chaka Khan.
As a teacher He won the “1st National Conservatories competition” in Frosinone (2013) and he's a proud teacher of many winners of similar competition in Italy.
In his 28 years long career as a clinician and teacher he had the privilege to help the didactic run of many of the most relevant Italian young jazz musicians.
He often holds clinics throughout Italy, Europe and United States.
