About Approaching Troy

Pop-punk/Post-hardcore outfit Approaching Troy, formed in Long Island, NY adopted the mantra, “stay strong as a unit, overcome adversity and show the world how far your dreams will take you”. It’s a competitive and fierce world out there, and as many bands discover, it’s easy to get swept under before they ever get their feet on the ground. Approaching Troy is living proof that raw talent, ambition, dedication and honesty can still prevail in an ever more challenging and ever-changing industry.

For lead vocalist and songwriter Jake Salazar, that experience could not be more real. The band started as his solo project, and in 2010 and after months of writing, Jake decided to add some musician friends he knew around town who could carry the sound and vision he imagined and a band was formed. For weeks after their first performance the band was the talk of the town bringing in fans from all over Long Island, NY. The band released an unofficial single "Star Crossed Lovers" off their underground first album, Somnium, which caught the ears of industry and adoring fans alike for it's driving rock rhythms, pop-punk sensibilities and memorable hooks. At the same time, struggles began within the group. Growing pains quickly set in and within months, continuous lineup changes would plague the band for the next two and a half years. After collaborating with Management Night Roads Entertainment in 2013, the current lineup of Approaching Troy became the most dedicated and talented members to date. Since then, and for the next 3 years, the band has played numerous shows together to passionate and adoring fans in the NYC/LI area and beyond. Some of their wildest dreams were beginning to come true for this fledgling band. Approaching Troy would open up for and support legends of their genre like Hawthorne Heights, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, The Venetia Fair, Patent Pending, 2016 APM nominees Creeper and The Ataris just to name a few with a performance at the 2016 LAUNCH Conference alongside fellow Long Island idols, Bayside. The band took their exuberant live show on the road in 2015 and ended it with a summer nation-wide tour, their first, which took this Long Island cross-country solidifying excited new fans and new industry relationships. Thanks to that much-hyped 2015 summer tour, their last EP release, “Dear Sadie” was met with plenty of industry buzz. Singles “This Victory”, “Here’s To Ohio” and “The Rescue” were among their fan favorites.

Approaching Troy continued to grow in popularity the following year as the band grew stronger as a unit. Even more buzz is expected after their August 2016 new EP release, “Best Intentions” which shows the band’s maturity and willingness to take chances musically and also shows this stronger unit contributing more to the writing process. Singles off this album like “Wake Up” and “Sparta” are just a hint of what’s to come from this promising and maturing band.

Undoubtedly, Long Island NY has always had an amazing musical history with many bands leaving their mark in the hearts and souls of American rock fans. The echoes of that revolution (predecessors Taking Back Sunday, Glassjaw, Dream Theater, Bayside and Brand New) continue with younger bands painting the musical landscape around these suburban towns the musical movement was born in. Approaching Troy is ready and strong enough with the confidence they too will make their individual mark on the Island’s rich musical history.
